Types of Photovoltaic Panels

There are essentially two main types of panels readily available on the market today: Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline. Monocrystalline panels have a wee bit higher efficiency, have better high temperature performance, but is more difficult to manufacture, hence more expensive. Polycrystalline lag behind the Monocrystalline variety in all of the aforementioned traits, but are more economical.  Noted in the following are some of the more popular PV panel vendors I’ve come across in my research.

01

Santan Solar

Based our of Arizona and now also Branched in Georgia, these good folks appear to have a source to used solar panels retired from large solar farms.

02

Beene Energy

Found Chris Beene from his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/beeneenergy. Based out of Texas, Chris looks to be doing great things in the solar arena.

03

GoGreenManSolar

Learned of this man through Ebay while searching for Solar Panel deals. There is a channel on YouTube with this very same logo, and evidence seems to point that they are based out of Florida, but this is all just speculation. I have been stalking their ebay listing like a madman because of the free shipping accompanying their PV panels by the pallet deal.

04

Signature Solar

Another one out of Texas that is one of the more popular names in the DIY solar arena. They have a section on their web store devoted to sales of PV panels by the pallet, although I think they mostly subcontract out this aspect because of their name recognition.

05

Watts247

Based out of Utah, Ian the Solar guy also has a channel on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXVNL-mnf_vfD_qT7jLjtcg/featured. Ian appears to have some sort of distribution agreement with MPP Solar of Taiwan to market MPP Inverters. He’s mentioned here because he also has a Solar Panel purchase option on his website.

04

Craigslist

My first foray into the used solar panel market started with a local Craigslist search. It’s probably not as hip as the more fancy apps out there, but it works for an old school folks like me.
